You're going to love this smoothie. It's dee-licious. So good for you too! It's a no-brainer for breakfast.
Blackberries are very low on fructose but high in healthy fibre. They're packed with Vitamin C and flavanoids, which are all anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant and anti-ageing.
Pineapple contains bromelain, an enzyme that helps us digest proteins better. It's also full of Vitamin C, giving us an anti-oxidant and immune boost, as well as very high in manganese which is one of the minerals involved in bone cartilage formation, and collagen production, which keeps our skin looking youthful. The fibre and vitamin/mineral content in pineapple offsets their sugar content. So it wouldn't be advisable to have pineapple every day and which is why I'm mixing it with other lower sugar food.
These amounts serve 1:
1 cup of frozen blackberries
1 cup of pineapple, ideally fresh
1 heaped tbsp of desiccated coconut
handful of kale washed and central stalk taken out
1 tbsp milled flaxseeds
1tbsp protein powder
1.5 cups of coconut milk, or almond milk
Blend and enjoy.
If you're stuck for time in the morning, just prep the smoothie the night before and put it in a bag in the freezer. Then all you've got to do in the morning is add the powdery ingredients and the liquid.
