We’ve all heard about how good avocados are for our skin – ever made one of those home-made face masks? So good you could eat it? Or some hair treatment involving avocados?
Well it’s not a myth. The healthy fats and vitamin E content combined with phytonutrients make avocados really helpful in strengthening your hair and protecting your scalp, whilst also being extremely beneficial for your skin.
But it turns out, those healthy fats are fantastic for inside our bodies too and for a whole host of other things:
Improves digestion as it’s full of fibre which helps to keep everything in your digestive tract moving smoothly. This is so important because we want to have a clear (and regular) exit route for all the toxins and chemicals that your body needs to get rid of.
B5 and B6, essential for making hormones, keeping your adrenals healthy, making energy and helping you manage stress better.
High in antioxidants vitamin C and E. These zap free radicals. Free radicals are crazy molecules that travel around inside your body turning things rusty and eventually making you ill (if you have too many of them circulating). So they need to be stabilized and that’s what anti-oxidants do.
Let me say one final thing though. If you eat a crap diet, adding a couple of avocados a day isn’t going to do the trick at all. But if you clean up your diet, then avocados are a really wonderful, healthy addition to your life.
